വ്യാഴാഴ്ച ഉച്ചയ്ക്ക് അഹമ്മദാബാദിലെ സർദാർ വല്ലഭായ് പട്ടേൽ അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര വിമാനത്താവളത്തിൽ നിന്ന് പറന്നുയർന്നതിന് തൊട്ടുപിന്നാലെ ലണ്ടനിലേക്ക് പോകുകയായിരുന്ന എയർ ഇന്ത്യ വിമാനം തകർന്നുവീണു. എയർ ഇന്ത്യ 171 എന്ന പേരിൽ സർവീസ് നടത്തുന്ന ബോയിംഗ് 787-8 ഡ്രീംലൈനർ വിമാനത്തിൽ 230 യാത്രക്കാരും 12 ക്രൂ അംഗങ്ങളും ഉൾപ്പെടെ 242 പേർ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
വിമാനത്താവളത്തിന് സമീപമുള്ള മേഘാനിനഗർ പ്രദേശത്തിനടുത്താണ് സംഭവം. അപകടസ്ഥലത്ത് നിന്നുള്ള ദൃശ്യങ്ങളിൽ ആകാശത്തേക്ക് കട്ടിയുള്ള കറുത്ത പുക ഉയരുന്നത് കാണാമായിരുന്നു, അടിയന്തര പ്രതികരണ സംഘങ്ങൾ സ്ഥലത്തേക്ക് കുതിച്ചു. തീ നിയന്ത്രണവിധേയമാക്കാൻ ഏഴ് ഫയർ എഞ്ചിനുകളെങ്കിലും വിന്യസിച്ചു.
An Air India Boeing 787 (Flight AI 171) carrying 242 people crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday. The London-bound aircraft went down near Meghaninagar, with thick black smoke visible at the crash site. Emergency teams, including seven fire engines, rushed to the scene as rescue operations began.
