In Kodanchery, the Mandalam Congress Committee organized a march and dharna in front of the KSEB office to protest the tragic death of two children who were electrocuted when a power line fell into a stream where they were bathing. The protestors blamed KSEB for gross negligence, pointing out that despite repeated public complaints about the hazardous condition of electrical lines, no preventive action was taken. They demanded ₹25 lakh as compensation for each bereaved family and urged that one family member be given a job in KSEB, especially considering the families have been left in distress.
DCC General Secretary P.C. Habeeb Thampi inaugurated the protest and warned of stronger agitations if the demands were not promptly met. The event was chaired by Mandalam Congress President Vincent Vadakkemuriyil and featured speeches from several political and local leaders, who stood in solidarity with the grieving families and condemned KSEB’s failure to ensure public safety.
