നിരോധിത പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് ഉൽപ്പന്നം; കർശന നടപടികളുമായി കോഴിക്കോട് ജില്ലാ ഭരണകൂടം

Kozhikode: The Kozhikode district administration is preparing to take strict action against establishments involved in the sale or production of banned plastic products. As part of this initiative, two existing enforcement squads at the district level have intensified their operations, and five new squads have been formed. These new squads will operate under the leadership of Internal Vigilance Officers (IVOs). Additionally, local self-government institutions have been instructed to strengthen inspections.

Village panchayats must conduct inspections twice a week, while municipalities and corporations are required to carry out daily inspections. In areas facing a shortage of officials, the government has granted permission to hire temporary staff on a daily wage basis. Over the past week, the district enforcement squad conducted 100 inspections, imposing fines amounting to ₹1,25,000. Further inspections will be carried out more rigorously in the coming days, according to M. Gauthaman, the District Sanitation Mission Coordinator.

Banned Products:

• Plastic carry bags (regardless of thickness)
• Plastic-coated paper cups, plates, and bowls
• Drinking water bottles below 500 ml
• Plastic table covers, thermocol, and Styrofoam plates/cups
• Single-use plastic items such as cups, plates, spoons, forks, straws, and dishes
• Non-woven bags, plastic flags, plastic bundling materials
• Plastic water pouches, plastic juice containers, PVC flex materials, garbage bags, and plastic packaging materials
