The Unni Mukundan-starrer “Marco,” which achieved massive success in theaters, will not be aired on television as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has denied certification for its TV release. The board rejected the request to lower its category rating, following the Regional Examination Committee’s recommendation. The film was deemed too violent to be reclassified as U or U/A, though the producers can apply again after removing additional scenes.
Reacting to criticism about promoting violence, producer Sharif Mohammed stated that he will no longer make films as violent as Marco. He clarified that Marco was not intended to encourage violence, and he expected audiences to view it as just a cinematic experience. His upcoming film, “Kattalan,” will also contain some violent scenes, but not to the extent of Marco.
The extreme violence in Marco was included for storytelling purposes, and the controversial scene involving a pregnant woman was deemed necessary for the film’s narrative. He defended the “Most Violent Movie” tagline used in promotions, stating it was meant to be truthful. He also emphasized that Marco was an 18+ certified film, and children should never have watched it in theaters.
