ആനകൾ എവിടെ നിന്ന് എങ്ങോട്ടാണ് ഓടിയത് എന്നറിയാതെ ജനം; അനങ്ങാൻ പോലും സാധിക്കാതെ ഭീതിയുടെ പിടിയിൽ, വൻ ദുരന്തം ഒഴിവായത് തലനാരിഴയ്ക്ക്

Koyilandy: മണക്കുളങ്ങര ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഉത്സവത്തിനിടെ ആനകൾ പരസ്പരം കുത്തി വിരണ്ടോടുമ്പോൾ 200 മീറ്റർ മാത്രം അകലെ മറ്റൊരു ആനയുമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. സമീപത്തുള്ള കാട്ടുവയൽ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ വരവിനൊപ്പമുള്ള ആനയായിരുന്നു ഇത്. താലപ്പൊലിയെടുത്തു സ്ത്രീകളും കുട്ടികളുമടക്കമുള്ളവരും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. വരവിനൊപ്പമുള്ള ഈ ആനയ്ക്ക് അരികിലൂടെയാണ് വിരണ്ടോടിയ ഒരാന കടന്നു പോയത്. വലിയ വീതിയൊന്നുമുള്ള വഴിയായിരുന്നില്ല. എന്നാൽ ആന ആക്രമിക്കാതിരുന്നത് വലിയ ദുരന്തം ഒഴിവാക്കി.

വരവ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ എത്തിയ സമയത്താണ് അപകടമുണ്ടായത് എങ്കിൽ ദുരന്തത്തിന്റെ വ്യാപ്തി ഇങ്ങനെ ആയിരിക്കില്ല. തലനാരിഴയ്ക്കാണ് വലിയ അപകടം ഒഴിവായതെന്നു നാട്ടുകാർ പറയുന്നു. സമീപത്തെ വീടുകളിലുണ്ടായിരുന്നവർ വരവ് കാണുന്നതിനായി വഴിയിലും മറ്റും നിന്നതും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ തിരക്ക് കുറച്ചു. വരവ് കാണുന്നതിനായി ആളുകൾ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനു സമീപത്ത് നിൽക്കുമ്പോഴാണ് ആനയോടി എന്ന വാർത്ത പരക്കുന്നത്. ഇതോടെ ആളുകൾ പലവഴിക്കു ചിതറിയോടി. ആന എവിടെ നിന്നു എങ്ങോട്ടാണ് ഓടിയത് എന്നതറിയാതെ ജനങ്ങൾ പരിഭ്രാന്തരായി. പലരും അടുത്ത വീടുകളിലേക്ക് ഓടിക്കയറി. ഓടാൻ സാധിക്കാതെ ചിലർ പേടിച്ചരണ്ട അവസ്ഥയിലായിരുന്നു.ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നിന്നു ആന പുറത്തേക്ക് ഓടി എന്നറിഞ്ഞതോടെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലേക്ക് മുന്നിലേക്കാണ് പലരും ഓടിയെത്തിയത്. അതോടെ അവിടെ ജനങ്ങളുടെ തിക്കും തിരക്കുമായിരുന്നു.

Koyilandy: During the festival at Manakkulangara Temple, two elephants clashed and ran amok, causing panic among the devotees. Just 200 meters away, another elephant was present as part of the Varavu procession at the nearby Kattuvayal Temple. Women and children were also among those participating in the procession. One of the rampaging elephants ran dangerously close to the elephant accompanying the Varavu procession. The narrow pathway added to the tension, but fortunately, no attack occurred, preventing what could have been a major disaster. Locals pointed out that if the incident had taken place at the exact moment when the Varavu procession arrived, the scale of the catastrophe would have been far worse. Many believe the community narrowly escaped a tragedy. Residents watching the Varavu from nearby houses had gathered along the road and temple premises, reducing congestion in the immediate area. As soon as the news of the elephant rampage spread, people scattered in different directions in fear. Some rushed into nearby houses, while others stood frozen in terror, unable to move. As the elephant charged out of the temple premises, many devotees rushed toward the front of the temple, leading to crowding and chaos. However, despite the panic and confusion, the situation was eventually brought under control, averting a disaster by a whisker.
