Thamarassery: A lorry overturned into a gorge at Vattakkundu in Thamarassery, injuring the driver. The accident occurred on the Vattakkundu bridge, a known accident-prone area along the national highway. The lorry lost control, broke through the bridge’s guard wall and railing, and plunged into the gorge. The incident happened around 11:45 PM on Wednesday night.
The lorry, which was transporting paint from Mysore to Kozhikode, was being driven by Prasannan, a native of Hassan, Karnataka. He sustained injuries in the accident and was found completely covered in paint. He was immediately rushed to Thamarassery Taluk Hospital. Local youths who arrived at the scene quickly carried out the rescue operation.
The lorry also hit a nearby electric post, causing a temporary power outage in the area. Vattakkundu bridge has a history of similar accidents involving lorries, cars, and other vehicles. Just days ago, locals and residents had protested demanding the widening of the bridge to prevent such recurring mishaps.
